Provo Ryder Cup

Sponsored by T & C Sotheby’s International Realty
“International Team Conquers North America”

The Provo Golf Ryder Cup, sponsored by Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, witnessed another International Team victory by the margin of 20 to 16. Team International retained control of the coveted cup during the two day event which saw 48 golfers compete in the member favourite match play format. The conclusive win extended the International Team’s dominance to 18 to 8 over the 26 year history.

Captain Dale Hodgkins and his Assistant Graham Malyan led the Internationals who found themselves ahead 7 to 5 after the Saturday best ball format. The North American Captains, Rob Ayer and Rick Sanmiya were confident of a Sunday comeback however the International Team had different ideas and won Sunday’s singles matches 13 to 11 resulting in the four point win.
The Provo Ryder Cup is eagerly anticipated each year and the event kicked off with a lively Wednesday pairings party where the Captains arranged the stage for all 36 matches. Captain Ayer entertained the crowd while Captain Hodgkins matched wits and strategy with the North American team.  Although a true team event it should be noted that the following 8 players captured a perfect 2 points by winning both their matches; Fraser Dods, John Donatien, Gregg Rivers, Tony Garland, Dan Carriere, Dale Hodgkins, Tim Mack and Brooke Rivers!

The Provo Ryder Cup again enjoyed great matches and wonderful golf course conditions over the newly renovated Provo Golf Club that now boasts platinum paspalum grass. Golf Course Superintendent Tim Mack and his staff have successfully transformed Provo Golf Club into one of the very best Caribbean golf courses. It is also noted that the captains did a terrific job creating a competitive but fun atmosphere which was enjoyed by all the players.
North America will need to go back to the drawing board to recapture the momentum as the International Team rules the Turks and Caicos golf scene! Perhaps Joe himself should dust off his set of clubs and join in next year as the North American Captain.
The Ryder Cup players and Provo Golf Club would like to thank sponsor Joe Zahm of Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty for making the weekend a huge success with their headline sponsorship.
